Anne Menkens, PhD

Anne Menkens is program director for dissemination at the North Carolina Institute for Public Health.  In this role, she writes and edits a variety of projects for the division of executive education and other divisions within the Institute. 

Anne is co-author of two books, Public Health Business Planning: A Practical Guide (Jones & Bartlett, 2008) and Managing the Public Health Enterprise (Jones & Bartlett, 2009). She has also edited two special issues of the Journal of Management and Practice that focused on Institute programs and is currently working with the director of the NC Center for Public Health Preparedness on a book on field epidemiology. 

Before coming to the Institute in 2005, Anne was research associate for the dean of the School of Medicine and, earlier, of the School of Public Health. She has also held positions as a technical writer and teacher of writing and English Literature.

Anne earned a PhD in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 

 

Al’s professional affiliations include membership in the Society of Human Resources Management, Triangle Society of Human Resources Management (Director of Diversity), The National Association of African Americans in Human Resources (Vice President NC Triangle Chapter), and the Durham Workforce Development Board (Business Services Committee Member). Al earned his BA degree from Alabama A&M University and is an MS Organizational Development degree candidate for May 2011 at American University in Washington, DC.

Al is married and has three children. He enjoys live jazz, hiking the Appalachians, fishing and participating in triathlons.
