Business Plan Advisor CorpsCatherine Wheeler McClain is Executive Director for the Kenan Institute in Charlotte and has over ten years of experience working with domestic and internationally focused not-for-profit organizations. Catherine is familiar with working to enhance the entrepreneurial activities and business strategies of small businesses and not-for profit organizations. In her current role, she has help design and implement a Civic Entrepreneurship Program designed to assist not-for-profit organizations in identifying entrepreneurial and revenue-generating activities, and a Global Diversity Initiative, focused on export training for minority and women-owned business.
Catherine holds an International MBA from the University of South Carolina and the Wirtschaftuniversitaet Wien,. She earned Bachelor degrees from the University of Georgia in political science and social science education with minors in global studies and French. She has lived, worked and studied extensively through Western and Eastern Europe and the South Pacific and is active in her local community.
Pamela Santos is a Senior Business Consultant
with the Urban
Investment Strategies Center in the Kenan
Institute of Private Enterprise at the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill. She works with non-profit organizations and communities
to develop income-generating strategies to become more sustainable and
competitive in today's knowledge-based economy. She has also worked as
a marketing specialist in the telecommunications industry for Ericcson
Mobile Phone Systems Latin America and Nortel Networks. She worked in
marketing and finance at the Latino Community Credit Union in Durham,
NC. In the Peace Corps in Santiago, Dominican Republic, she served as
a consultant for not-for-profit organizations focused on women and minority
issues, developing and implementing revenue-generating models to decrease
dependency on outside grants and fundraising, as well as developing marketing
strategies to increase support and strengthen brand identity. Pamela has an MBA from the University of North Carolina-Chapel
Hill. She earned a bachelor's degree in Management and Marketing from
the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. She completed a one-year
exchange program studying export marketing and international economics
at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. She has traveled
extensively throughout Europe and Latin America, and is fluent in Spanish.
